How we work

Five steps. You do the least work in all of them.

Every step is built around getting you a straight answer — not a runaround.

  1. Call or reach out

If it's urgent, call us! Otherwise, use the form above — Kev follows up personally with the right questions.

  2. Planning

Kev reads the schedule and builds the plan — materials ordered, crew booked, sequence set before day one.

  3. Quoting

Usually no site visit needed — a call and a few photos are enough for one firm number. What's quoted is what gets installed.

  4. Get to work

The crew shows up on time and moves fast, doing the job right the first time so there's no callback needed.

  5. Inspect & sign off

Kev isn't happy until every faceplate is on straight, right down to the last screw — nothing gets called done until it passes his check.

Kev

Owner / Founder

Kev, owner of Modern Electric

Kev's Story

Kev started his apprenticeship as a teenager and never really slowed down. Years wiring some of the finest custom homes in Canada gave him a real appreciation for high-end residential and smart home work, and from there he kept pushing — commercial projects, then years on major industrial sites across Western Canada. It's the kind of large-scale, high-stakes work that teaches you to get it right the first time.

The industrial money was good. The travel wasn't a life. So Kev started Modern Electric from scratch. The company went on to wire some of the region's finest homes and became the electrical contractor for HGTV's Love It or List It Vancouver.

These days he's settled on Vancouver Island, close to family. He still runs quoting, invoicing, and the back office himself, and he's the named Field Safety Representative on every permit and licence Modern Electric pulls — the same guy who wired mega-projects, now doing it for his neighbours.

Not a One-Man Show

Kev and Joe lead every job together — kev's electrical background paired with joe's carpentry, engineering, and site management experience, from home rewires to large-scale builds. Behind them is as many people as the job actually calls for — the right people for the right job, not a fixed headcount.

No subcontracted labour, no one-off hires for a big job. The people wiring your panel are the same people Kev and Joe trained and vouch for.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes — the initial conversation costs nothing. Send a photo of your panel or fill out the callback form and Kev or Joe will call you back with a straight answer, often a firm number, at no cost and no obligation. Larger jobs like full rewires or new builds may need a short site visit before we can quote a final number.

What's an arc-fault breaker, and do I need one?

An arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) breaker is built to catch the type of electrical arcing that starts house fires — a standard breaker only trips on overload or short. Many jurisdictions now require them on new circuits and major renovations. Send a photo of your panel and Joe can tell you what applies to your home.

Do I need a 200A service upgrade?

Most older homes were wired for 100A, which was plenty before heat pumps, EV chargers, and hot tubs showed up. If you're adding loads like these, a 200A upgrade gives your panel room for what's coming. A photo of your panel is enough for Kev to tell you where you stand.

How does a load calculation work for a heat pump or EV charger?

Before we quote a heat pump or EV charger, we calculate how much of your panel's capacity is already spoken for. That number decides whether it's a straightforward add-on or needs a service upgrade first — which is why we ask for a panel photo before quoting instead of after.

Not urgent?
